Subject: | Traction Off Lamp On or Service Traction Control Message |
Models: | 2005-2006 Cadillac STS |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
The following information may be useful when diagnosing a 2005-2006 Cadillac STS with a Traction Off lamp or a Service Traction Control message and a DTC C0561.71 stored in the EBCM.
Recommendation/Instructions:
- Install Tech 2 and test for any codes in the IPM, PCM, and RIM, if codes present, diagnose them first.
- If no codes set in any other modules, and a C0561.71 code is still set in the EBCM, enter the Data screen under Chassis systems, and monitor the data list for the TCS system. Locate the TCS Enabled/ Disabled data on the Tech 2, and cycle
the TCS switch, while monitoring the data.
- If the data on the Tech 2 will not toggle between Enabled and Disabled suspect the TCS switch or wiring issue.
- Disconnect, and locate pins C (BN/WH wire) and pin D (BK/WH wire) at the TCS Switch connector. Momentarily short Pin C to Pin D, and monitor the Tech 2 data. If it switches states replace the TCS switch. If no switching is noted, first check the
continuity to ground on pin D (Circuit 451). If Pin D resistance to ground is low then next check the wiring from the TCS switch to the IPM per Document ID # 1622043 on Circuit 1571.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
