Subject: | Understanding the Bluetooth Phone Interface |
Models: | 2005-2006 Cadillac STS |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
When diagnosing a Bluetooth cellular phone interface concern, it is important to understand some facts about how the system works.
- The Bluetooth interface built into the Navigation Radio (RPO YQ4) on 2005 -2006 Cadillac STS provides a handsfree, wireless connection to some, but not all, Bluetooth equipped cell phones.
- The interface provides a method of sending and receiving calls using the vehicles Voice Recognition system or Navigation touch screen while connecting to a cellular network by using the owner's cell phone.
- The wireless interface cannot be used to transfer data, such as an address book, between the vehicle and a cell phone.
- The handsfree interface will not work until the phone is paired with the vehicle (See page 6-2 of the STS Navigation Radio Supplement Manual).
- The vehicle will not interface with other Bluetooth devices such as PDA's, Laptops, MP3 Players, etc...
- Many features may not work as expected unless the phone is set as the default device in the Navigation Radio (See page 6-4 of the STS Navigation Radio Supplement Manual).
Note: The vehicle has the ability to learn
a different default phone for driver 1 and 2.
- Many Bluetooth related concerns are a result of settings on the owner's cellular phone. These include, but are not limited to:
• | The cell phone rings but does not ring through the vehicle speakers |
• | There is an echo head when on a handsfree call |
• | The caller can hear but cannot be heard |
• | Refer to the customer's cellular phone owners manual for information on phone settings. |
- Not all Bluetooth equipped cell phones provide the same functionality as the Cadillac STS. As a result, there may be some Bluetooth related features available on the vehicle that are not available on the owner's cell phone or vice-versa. Refer to
the customer's cellular phone owners manual or the cell phone manufacture for information about the cell phone's functionality.
- Due to variations in the way Bluetooth technology is used, some features may not work as expected even if the feature is available on both the vehicle and the customer's cell phone.
Note: Replacement of the Navigation Radio will not change any of the above conditions.
Refer to PIC3378B and the Navigation Radio Supplement Manual for more information on the use of the Bluetooth Phone feature.
