Subject: | New Route Cannot Be Calculated When Using 2007 Model Year Map DVD, Voice Recognition System Performs Poorly, Noisy Map Drive When Updating Traffic Message Channel, Memory Seat Function Operation Complicated (Update Audio And Navigation System Software) |
Models: | 2005-2006 Cadillac STS (European Export Vehicles Only) |
Condition
Some customers may comment of any or all of the following conditions:
• | They cannot calculate a route in their vehicle's navigation system when using the updated 2007 model year map disc, P/N 15924193. |
• | Poor performance of the voice recognition system. |
• | The map drive makes too much noise when updating the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) information. |
• | The memory seat function operation is complicated. |
Cause
This condition may be caused by the navigation system software. The format of the European map DVD, starting in the 2007 model year, is different than in previous year's and the navigation system software will require an update.
Correction
Important: Once the navigation radio is updated it will still be compatible with the customer's original map DVD.
Important:
• | The ignition switch has two contact buttons. The upper button, with a circle indicator on it, starts the engine if the brake pedal is applied. The lower part of the button has two indictors on it; O and AC. This button cycles the ignition through
the following modes: |
• | OFF -- This is the normal state upon entering the vehicle. It may also be reached from any other mode by depressing the ignition mode switch. The O indicator will illuminate after the customer enters the vehicle. |
• | ACCESSORY -- This mode can be reached from the OFF state by depressing the ignition mode switch. The ACC indicator illuminates. |
• | ON with the engine off -- This state can be reached from the OFF or ACCESSORY modes by depressing the button for about 5 or 6 seconds. The upper button, with a circle indicator on it, illuminates. |
Important: After the software updates are complete, the customer may notice that some functions have been moved to different screen locations. Some commands that were used infrequently were deleted. If a voice command is not recognized,
the navigation radio will now prompt the user to speak the command up to three times.
Technicians are to perform a software update on the audio and navigation systems.
- Record the customer's radio station presets.
- Connect a Tech 2® to the vehicle and cycle the ignition to ON with the engine off.
- Wait until the audio or map screen is displayed after the Cadillac logo screen.
Important: If the navigation system software version is the same or higher than version 0FC, the software update will not start and the navigation software update is not necessary. Do NOT insert disc 2 in the radio.
- Eject the map DVD, if loaded. Load the navigation system software update CD, disc 1, into the map DVD loading slot.
- The "Preparing to load system software" will appear on the screen along with a progress bar. When the green progress bar reaches the end, the navigation software update using disc 1 is complete and the system will automatically restart.
- Eject software update disc 1 from the map DVD slot.
- Load the audio system software update, disc 2, into the map DVD slot.
- A progress bar will be displayed on the lower left side of the screen. Japanese text will appear above the progress bar. When the yellow progress bar reaches the end, the audio system software update using disc 2 is complete and the system automatically
restarts.
