Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Loosen the hose clamps for the clamps inlet and outlet hoses.
Important: When removing or installing of the inlet or outlet hoses, note the routing of the hoses for the proper clearances.
- Remove the inlet and outlet hoses from the differential.
- Plug or cap the outlet fitting.
- Support the differential cooler assembly with a transmission jack or the appropriate support.
- Disconnect the electrical connector for the differential cooler (1).
- Remove the differential cooler wiring harness from the retainer on the frame.
- Remove the hose from the differential coolant pump to the cooler. Refer to
Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose, Cooler Outlet Hose, and Pump Inlet Hose Replacement
.
- Remove the mounting nuts (2) for the differential cooler assembly.
- Remove the differential cooler assembly (3).
- Disconnect the electrical connector for the differential cooler fan (1).
- Remove the retaining nuts for the differential cooler (2).
- Remove the differential cooler (3) from the carrier (4).
Installation Procedure
- Install the differential cooler (3) in the carrier (4).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the differential cooler retaining nuts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the retaining nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the hose from the differential coolant pump to the cooler. Refer to
Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose, Cooler Outlet Hose, and Pump Inlet Hose Replacement
.
- Install the differential cooler wiring harness in the retainer on the frame.
- Reconnect the electrical connector for the cooling fan (1).
- Install the differential cooler assembly (3) on the rear floor.
- Position the coolers hoses over the rear drive axle.
- Install the mounting nuts (2) for the differential cooler.
Tighten
Tighten the mounting nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Remove the support for the differential cooler assembly.
- Connect the electrical connector (1).
- Remove the cap or plug from the outlet fitting.
- Install the differential cooler hoses on the differential.
Tighten
Tighten the mounting nuts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Refill the differential cooler with the proper fluid. Refer to
Axle Lubricant Change
.
- Lower the vehicle.
