Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Cover the sunload sensor assembly.
  2. Turn ON the courtesy lamps.
  3. Push and release the instrument panel (I/P) compartment lamp switch.

Does the I/P compartment lamp operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

Do the courtesy lamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Symptoms - Lighting Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the I/P compartment lamp switch harness connector.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the I/P compartment lamp switch voltage supply circuit and ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the I/P compartment lamp switch voltage supply circuit and the I/P compartment lamp switch ground circuit at the I/P compartment lamp switch harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the I/P compartment lamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 9

Locate and repair the following in the I/P compartment lamp voltage supply circuit:

    • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Locate and repair and open or high resistance in the I/P compartment lamp switch ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Replace the I/P compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 10

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
