Front Fender Ornament

Notice: Refer to Exterior Trim Emblem Removal Notice in the Preface section.

Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Remove the wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement .
3. Use a J 25070 Heat Gun or equivalent to assist in the removal of the old fender ornament adhesive tape.
4. Apply two layers of masking tape around the forward and rearward corners of the fender ornament.
5. Reach in the wheelhouse and release the seven retainer clips securing the fender ornament to the fender panel.
6. The part and surface should be 21°C (70°F) prior to installation. The vehicle should remain 21°C (70°F) for one hour after assembly to allow adhesive to develop sufficient bond strength.
7. Release the fender ornament from the fender panel.
8. Clean all adhesive residue from the fender panel using a 50 / 50 mix by volume of clean drinkable water and isopropyl alcohol.
9. Dry the fender panel using a clean lint-free cloth prior to installing the new fender ornament.
10. When removing protective liners from the adhesive tape, be careful not to touch tape with hands and do not allow tape to come in contact with dirt or any foreign matter prior to adhesion.
11. Position the fender ornament to the opening and apply inward pressure until the seven retainer clips secure to the inner fender panel.
12. Using the palm of the hand, wet out the adhesive tape to the upper fender panel, this will ensure full adhesion of the fender ornament is made to the fender flange.
