• | There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace the fuel filter if the filter is restricted. |
• | If you find a restricted fuel filter, inspect and clean the inside of the fuel tank. |
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to

.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Place an approved container under the vehicle to catch the draining gasoline.
- Disconnect the quick-connect fittings (4 and 5) at the fuel filter inlet. Refer to

Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bracket (2) and bolt (9) if previously removed.
Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter bracket mounting bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
- If originally equipped, install new plastic connector retainers on the fuel filter ports. Install the new retainers in the same position as on the old fuel filter.
- Slide the fuel filter into place.
- Connect the quick-connect fitting (1) to the outlet side of the filter.
- Connect the quick-connect fittings (4 and 5) to the inlet side of the filter. Refer to
Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Ensure that the fuel tank filler cap is installed correctly.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Perform the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks:
