Circuit Description

When the windshield wiper switch is in the ON position, it sends a voltage signal through a 24K ohm resistor and the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit to the windshield wiper/washer module indicating the wiper request. This voltage signal is also sent to the instrument panel module (IPM) indicating the wiper request. When the windshield washer switch is pressed, battery positive voltage is applied through the switch contacts by-passing the 24K ohm resistor, then through the same windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit to the wiper/washer module and the IPM indicating the washer request. The IPM counts each washer request and on the fourth request it will activate the low side drive output that controls the headlamp washer relay.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B2697 Headlamp Washer Request Circuit

Symptom

Symptom Descriptor

01

Short to battery voltage

Conditions for Running the DTC

The IPM must be awake with the ignition in the accessory, run, or crank request power modes.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The IPM detects battery positive voltage on the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit for 30 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The IPM disables the headlamp washer function.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC clears when the malfunction is no longer present.
    • A history DTC clears when the module ignition cycle counter reaches the reset threshold, without a repeat of the malfunction.
