1. Door Ajar Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The door module(s) receive a discreet input from the door ajar switch. When the door is open, the door ajar switch is closed. This grounds the door ajar switch signal circuit to the door module. The IPC and the IRC receives the status of the door ajar switch from the door module via a serial data message. When the door is open and the vehicle is in any gear other than park, the DIC displays the door ajar message.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the suspect door latch assembly.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit and ground.
  3. If greater than 1 ohm, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, scan tool installed, verify that the Door Ajar Switch parameter in the Door Data List is Door Closed.
  5. If not, test the door ajar switch signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the suspect door control module.
  6. Ignition ON, install a 3 Amp fused jumper wire between the door ajar switch signal circuit and ground. Verify that the Door Ajar Switch parameter in the Door Data List is Door Ajar.
  7. If not, test the door ajar switch signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the suspect door control module.
  8. If all circuits tests normal, replace the suspect door latch assembly.
