Circuit/System Description

The audio/video adaptor allows the connection of audio and video signals from an external device such as a camcorder, video game console or MP3 player to the Radio. The middle jack is for left audio (white), the right jack is for right audio (red), and the left jack is for video (yellow). The system requires standard RCA cables to connect your external device to the RCA jacks. The auxiliary audio and video circuits are connected to the Radio.

Diagnostic Aids

Verify the external audio or video device is operating normally before performing this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Testing

Important: Verify the DVD player in the radio is operating normally before performing this diagnostic procedure. If there is any problems with operating the DVD player with a known good DVD, replace the Navigation Radio.

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 and X4(UX8 only) harness connectors at the Radio.
  2. Ignition ON, test for less then 1 volt between the appropriate signal circuit terminals listed below and ground.
  3. • Left auxiliary audio signal (+) - terminal 1 X1
    • Right auxiliary audio signal (+) - terminal 2 X1
    • Drain wire (-) - terminal 7 X1
    • Auxiliary video high signal (+) - terminal 9 (UY5) X1
    • Drain wire (+) - terminal 8 (UY5) X1
    • Auxiliary video high signal (+) - terminal 14 (UX8) X4
    • Drain wire (+) - terminal 13 (UX8) X4
If greater then specified range, test the circuit for a short to voltage.
  4. Test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below and ground.
  5. • Left auxiliary audio signal (+) - terminal 1 X1
    • Right auxiliary audio signal (+) - terminal 2 X1
    • Drain wire (-) - terminal 7 X1
    • Auxiliary video high signal (+) - terminal 9 (UY5) X1
    • Drain wire (+) - terminal 8 (UY5) X1
    • Auxiliary video high signal (+) - terminal 14 (UX8) X4
    • Drain wire (+) - terminal 13 (UX8) X4
If less then the specified value, test the circuit for a short to ground.
  6. Test for less then 5 ohm between the terminals on the radio harness connector and the external terminals on the audio/video adaptor listed below:
  7. • Left auxiliary audio signal (+) - terminal 1 X1 and the inside of the center (white) jack
    • Right auxiliary audio signal (+) - terminal 2 X1 and the inside of the right (red) jack
    • Drain wire (-) - terminal 7 X1 and the outside of both the center (white), and the right (red) jacks
    • Auxiliary video high signal (+) - terminal 9 (UY5) X1 and the inside of the left (yellow) jack
    • Drain wire (+) - terminal 8 (UY5) X1 and the outside of the left (yellow) jack
    • Auxiliary video high signal (+) - terminal 14 (UX8) X4 and the inside of the left (yellow) jack
    • Drain wire (+) - terminal 13 (UX8) X4 and the outside of the left (yellow) jack
If greater then the specified value, test the circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the adaptor.
  8. If all circuits test normal, replace the Radio.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

    •  Auxiliary Audio/Video Input Control Replacement
    •  Control Module References for Radio replacement and programming.
