Additional Vehicle Information Displays: If the vehicle is an STS-V, the DIC also has additional vehicle information displays which include the following:

    • Engine Boost
    • Engine Oil Temperature
    • Engine Oil Pressure
    • Transmission Fluid Temperature

Average Fuel Economy

Average fuel economy is calculated using the equation: AFE = Distance/Fuel

    • Distance = The accumulated distance travelled since the last reset of this value
    • Fuel = The accumulated fuel consumption since the last reset of this value

The ECM sends the average fuel economy serial data message to the IPM. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from the instrument panel module (IPM) regarding fuel usage information. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF and can be changed between English units and metric units by pressing the English/Metric button on the DIC switch. Press and hold the Info button on the driver information center (DIC) switch for 1 second in order to reset the AFE display.

Average Speed

Average speed is calculated using the equation: Average Speed = Distance/Ignition On

    • Distance = The accumulated distance travelled since the last reset of this value
    • Ignition On = The accumulated ignition on time since the last reset of this value

Ignition on time is measured from the time that the ignition is turned ON to the time when the ignition is turned OFF. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF. Press and hold the Reset button on the DIC switch for 1 second in order to reset the average speed display.

Battery Voltage

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from the instrument panel module (IPM) for battery voltage data. The gage on the IPC displays similar battery voltage values. When the battery voltage is below the normal operating range, the DIC displays LOW and the actual battery voltage. When the battery voltage is greater than the normal operating range, the driver information center (DIC) displays HIGH and the actual battery voltage. The charging system indicator also illuminates when the battery voltage is outside the normal operating range.

Engine Oil Life Remaining

The engine control module (ECM) sends the oil life remaining percentage to the instrument panel module (IPM) via the serial data circuit. The instrument panel cluster receives a serial data message from the IPM indicating the engine oil life remaining. The driver information center (DIC) displays the current percentage of the GM Oil Life System as determined by the ECM. When the oil life remaining percentage drops below 5 percent, the DIC displays CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON. When the engine oil is changed, reset the GM Oil Life System. Press and hold the RESET button on the DIC switch for at least 3 seconds until the DIC displays 100 percent.

Fuel Range

This message indicates the estimated distance that the vehicle can travel under the current fuel economy and fuel level conditions since the last battery connection to the IPC. Fuel Range is calculated using the equation: Fuel Range = Distance Sum/Fuel Sum.

    • Distance Sum = The accumulated distance travelled since the last reset of this value.
    • Fuel Sum = The accumulated fuel delivered since the last reset of this value

The ECM sends the fuel range value to the instrument panel module (IPM). The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from the instrument panel module (IPM) with fuel information. The fuel range value is retained during ignition OFF and can be changed between English and Metric units by pressing the English/Metric button on the driver information center (DIC) switch. The Fuel Range display cannot be reset. Whenever the calculated fuel range is less than 64 Km/h (39.8 miles) RANGE-LOW is displayed.

Fuel Used

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) calculates and displays the total amount of fuel used since the last reset of the value.

The engine control module (ECM) sends the fuel used value to the instrument panel module (IPM) via the serial data circuit. The IPC receives a serial data message from the instrument panel module (IPM) with fuel information. The fuel used value is retained during ignition OFF and can be changed between English and Metric units by pressing the English/Metric button on the driver information center (DIC) switch. Press and hold the RESET button on the DIC switch for one second in order to reset the Fuel Used display.

Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE)

Instantaneous fuel economy (IFE) is calculated using the equation: IFE = Distance/Fuel.

    • Distance = The accumulated distance travelled for the last 2 seconds
    • Fuel = The accumulated fuel delivered for the last 2 seconds

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from the instrument panel module (IPM) with fuel information. The distance information is calculated by the IPC using the vehicle speed information from the ECM. These values are retained during ignition OFF and can be changed between English and Metric units by pressing the English/Metric button on the driver information center (DIC) switch. The IFE display cannot be reset.

Timer

The timer records elapsed time starting from activation. When the driver information center (DIC) displays the timer, pressing the INFO RESET button for 1.0 seconds on the DIC resets the timer. Pressing the INFO RESET button on the DIC switch for approximately 1.0 seconds starts and stops the timer. The DIC displays the timer in one of the following formats:

    • XX:XX:XX TIMER (ON)
    • XX:XX:XX TIMER (OFF)

The first XX represents hours elapsed, the second XX represents minutes elapsed, and the third XX represents seconds elapsed. The ON or OFF indicates whether the timer is currently running. The maximum range of the timer is 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. After the maximum range is reached, the timer displays all zeros (00:00:00).

Tire Pressure Monitor

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from the tire pressure monitoring (TPM) system for front and rear tire pressure data. The driver information center (DIC) will display the pressure for each of the front and rear tires. When a tire with low air pressure is present, the DIC displays XX TIRE PRESSURE LOW.

ENGLISH DISPLAY UNITS (METRIC DISPLAY UNITS)

This display allows you to select between English and metric units of measurement if your vehicle has the uplevel DIC. Press the reset button to switch between English and metric units.

ENGINE BOOST (STS-V Only)

This display shows a graphic that indicates the amount of boost the engine is receiving in either pounds per square inch (psi) or kilopascals (kPa).

ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE (STS-V Only)

This display shows the engine oil temperature in either degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or degrees Celsius (°C).

OIL PRESSURE (STS-V Only)

This display shows the oil pressure in either pounds per square inch (psi) or kilopascals (kPa).

TRANS (Transmission) FLUID TEMP (Temperature) (STS-V Only)

This display shows the transmission fluid temperature in either degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or degrees Celsius (°C).

Trip Information Display Menu

The following display menu items can be displayed by pressing the trip Information button:

Odometer: Press the trip information button until the odometer appears on the DIC display. The odometer shows the total distance the vehicle has been driven in either miles (mi) or kilometers (km) and cannot be reset.

Trip Odometer: Press the trip information button until trip odometer A or B appears on the DIC display. The trip odometer shows the current distance traveled since the last reset for each trip odometer in either miles (mi) or kilometers (km). Both odometers can be used at the same time. For base level vehicles, each trip odometer can be reset to zero separately by pressing and holding the bottom of the trip information button while the desired trip odometer is displayed. For uplevel vehicles, reset each trip odometer by pressing the reset button or by pressing and holding the trip information button while the desired trip odometer is displayed.
