Diagnostic Instructions
DTC Descriptor
DTC B1019 00: System Configuration Error
Circuit/System Description
The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) runs continuous diagnostic tests on the restraints system. When the ignition is turned ON, the SDM will check to see if the correct components are installed for the vehicle configuration. If
the SDM detects that there are too few or too many components on the system, DTC B1019 will set.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
• | The SDM was programmed with the wrong options for the vehicle. |
• | The wrong SDM was installed for the content of the vehicle. |
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | The SDM requests the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to illuminate the AIR BAG indicator. |
• | The SDM disables all deployments. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | The correct SDM must be installed. |
• | The correct components must be installed. |
Diagnostic Aids
If the SDM has been replaced, make sure that the correct part number was installed for this vehicle.

Circuit/System Testing
- With a scan tool, verify the correct VIN is programmed in the instrument panel module (IPM).
⇒ | If the IPM is programmed with the wrong VIN, perform the module setup Program VIN procedure. |
- With a scan tool, perform the Setup SDM Part Number into IPM procedure.
- With a scan tool, clear the DTCs and cycle the ignition OFF then ON. Verify DTC B1019 is not set.
⇒ | If the DTC resets, replace the SDM. |
Repair Instructions
Perform the
Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
