Rear Brake Hose Replacement JE5, JL9

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure

    Important: The right rear brake hose is replaced as an assembly, with the intermediate brake hose assembly.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the left tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.

  4. Object Number: 753084  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the brake hose (3) from the crossover pipe fitting (1).
  6. Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  7. Using a flat-bladed tool, remove the brake hose retainer (2) from the brake hose.

  8. Object Number: 752733  Size: SH
  9. Remove the brake hose (1) from the frame bracket (2).

  10. Object Number: 752743  Size: SH
  11. Remove the brake hose fitting bolt (4) from the brake caliper (1).
  12. Plug the brake caliper inlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  13. Remove the brake hose (2) from the vehicle.
  14. Place a shop towel on a hard surface.
  15. Tap the threaded end of the brake hose fitting bolt (4) on the shop towel to remove the gaskets (3) from the bolt.
  16. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the plug from the brake caliper inlet port.

  2. Object Number: 752743  Size: SH

    Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

  3. Assemble the brake hose, the NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3) and the brake hose fitting bolt (4) to the brake hose (2).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the brake hose fitting bolt to the brake caliper (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

  7. Install the brake hose (1) to the frame bracket (2).

  8. Object Number: 753084  Size: SH
  9. Install the brake hose retainer (1) to the brake hose (3).
  10. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the crossover pipe fitting end.
  11. Install the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose (3).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  13. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  14. Install the left tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  15. Lower the vehicle.

Rear Brake Hose Replacement J56

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure

    Important: The right rear brake hose is replaced as an assembly, with the intermediate brake hose assembly.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the left tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.

  4. Object Number: 753084  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the brake hose (3) from the crossover pipe fitting (1).
  6. Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  7. Using a flat-bladed tool, remove the brake hose retainer (2) from the brake hose.

  8. Object Number: 752733  Size: SH
  9. Remove the brake hose (1) from the frame bracket (2).

  10. Object Number: 752743  Size: SH
  11. Remove the brake hose fitting bolt (4) from the brake caliper (1).
  12. Plug the brake caliper inlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  13. Remove the brake hose (2) from the vehicle.
  14. Place a shop towel on a hard surface.
  15. Tap the threaded end of the brake hose fitting bolt (4) on the shop towel to remove the gaskets (3) from the bolt.
  16. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the plug from the brake caliper inlet port.

  2. Object Number: 752743  Size: SH

    Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

  3. Assemble the brake hose, the NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3) and the brake hose fitting bolt (4) to the brake hose (2).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the brake hose fitting bolt to the brake caliper (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

    Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

  7. Install the brake hose (1) to the frame bracket (2).

  8. Object Number: 753084  Size: SH
  9. Install the brake hose retainer (1) to the brake hose (3).
  10. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the crossover pipe fitting end.
  11. Install the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose (3).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  13. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
  14. Install the left tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
