Subject: | Squeak / Rattle Noise at Instrument Cluster |
Models: | 2007- 2008 Cadillac STS Built between May 1, and July 18, 2007 |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment about a squeak or itch type noise at the instrument cluster area. The cause of the noise in most instances is the top of the cluster trim touching the cluster lens. There is a piece of felt that is located on the cluster trim that is supposed to be located under the bumpers to eliminate the contact between the cluster and the lens. The felt may not be in the correct position to prevent contact. This was corrected June 12, 2007.
A rattle noise at the base of the cluster where the lens gaps to the cluster trim may also be noticed. Effective July 18, 2007, a piece of 3mm flock has been added on the cluster lens where the lower bumpers on the cluster trim interface.
Notice: Perform both repairs listed regardless of the customer concern to ensure all noise is eliminated.
To correct for the squeak or itch type noise at the instrument cluster area, apply a 2" piece of felt tape (1) so that the leading edge comes half way down the beveled surface and the rear edge is centered under each of the bumper posts (2).
To correct for a rattle noise at the base of the cluster add 3mm thick felt (3) to the lower cluster lens.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
