Traction Off Indicator On Or Service Stability SYS Displayed (C0561.71)

This PI was superseded to update model years, the Recommendation/Instructions field and the Condition/Concern field. Please discard PIC3807.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

A customer may comment the Traction Off lamp is on or SERVICE STABILITY SYS message is displayed. DTC C0561 71: System Disabled Information Stored Invalid Serial Data Received is stored with no other DTC stored in the electronic brake control module (EBCM), body control module (BCM), engine control module (ECM), instrument panel cluster (IPC), or the transmission control module (TCM). The cause may be an open or short in the Traction Control System (TCS) On/Off switch or wiring.

1. Verify that no DTCs are set in the BCM, ECM, IPC and the TCM. If DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle.
2. Monitor the Traction Control Switch scan tool data (Instrument Panel Module " Data Display " Instrument Panel Module " Inputs). If it does not toggle between Active and Inactive when pressing and releasing the button, then continue to Step 3.
3. Disconnect the TCS On/Off switch. Locate female pins C (ckt 1571 BN/WH wire) and pin D (ckt 451 BK/WH wire) in the TCS Switch connector. Short Pin C to Pin D momentarily while monitoring the Traction Control Switch scan tool data. If the parameter changes to Active with the pins shorted together, replace the TCS switch. If the parameter does not change to Active, continue to Step 4.
4. Test circuits 1571 and 451 for poor connections and for being open or shorted.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
