DTC Descriptor

DTC B2910: Steering Column Lock Password Incorrect

Circuit/System Description

Both the steering column lock control module (SCLCM) and the instrument panel module (IPM) have passwords stored in memory, that are required to match in order to unlock the steering column. When the ignition is turned ON, the SCLCM receives a password from the IPM on the low speed GMLAN serial data bus. The SCLCM will unlock the steering column if the power mode is on and the SCLCM and IPM passwords match. If the SCLCM and IPM passwords do not match, the steering column will not unlock and DTC B2910 will set.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The ignition is ON.
    • DTCs B1327 or B1328 are not set as current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The SCLCM password does not match IPM password.

Actions Taken When DTC Sets

    • The steering column will not unlock.
    • DTC B2910 is stored in the SCLCM memory.
    • The SCLCM will command the driver information center (DIC) to display the Service Column Lock Now message.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The stored SCLCM password matches the password from the IPM.

  3. Perform the setup procedure for the SCLCM. Verify that DTC B2910 does not set again after the setup is complete.
  4. If DTC B2910 sets after setting up the SCLCM, replace the SCLCM.
