Water Pump Replacement V6

Special Tools

EN 46104 Water Pump Pulley Holding Tool

Removal Procedure
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Remove the generator drive belt. Refer to Water Pump and Generator Belt Replacement.

    3. Object Number: 1342893 Size: SH
  3. Use the EN 46104 (1) in order to retain the water pump pulley.

    4. Object Number: 902876 Size: SH
  4. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  5. Remove the water pump pulley.

    6. Object Number: 946142 Size: SH
  6. Remove the water pump bolts.
  7. Remove the water pump.
  8. Remove and DISCARD the water pump seal.
  9. Carefully clean the water pump sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 946142 Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW water pump seal.
  2. Install the water pump.

    3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the water pump bolts and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    4. Object Number: 902876 Size: SH
  4. Install the water pump pulley and the water pump pulley bolts.

    5. Object Number: 1342893 Size: SH
  5. Use the EN 46104 (1) in order to retain the water pump pulley.
  6. Install the water pump pulley bolts and tighten to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
  7. Install the generator drive belt. Refer to Water Pump and Generator Belt Replacement.
  8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1649749 Size: SH
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement or Engine Coolant Fan Replacement.
  3. Remove the air conditioning, power steering and water pump drive belt. Refer to Water Pump and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement.
  4. Remove the air conditioning, power steering and water pump drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump.
  5. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  6. Remove the water pump pulley from the water pump.

    7. Object Number: 1201096 Size: SH
  7. Remove the water pump bolts.

    8. Note: Use a suitable drain pan to collect leaking coolant.

  8. Remove the water pump and seal.

    9. Do not reuse the seal.

  9. Clean the water pump mating surfaces.
  10. Clean and inspect the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1201096 Size: SH
  1. Install the water pump and NEW seal to the engine front cover.

    2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Install the water pump bolts and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    3. Object Number: 1649749 Size: SH
  3. Install the water pump pulley to the water pump.
  4. Install the water pump pulley bolts and tighten to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
  5. Install the air conditioning, power steering and water pump drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump.
  6. Install the air conditioning, power steering and water pump drive belt. Refer to Water Pump and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement.
  7. Install the cooling fan. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement or Engine Coolant Fan Replacement.
  8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

Water Pump Replacement LH2

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 887761 Size: SH
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement or Engine Coolant Fan Replacement.
  3. Remove the water pump drive belt. Refer to Water Pump and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement.
  4. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump.
  5. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  6. Remove the water pump pulley from the water pump.

    7. Object Number: 1201096 Size: SH
  7. Remove the water pump bolts.

    8. Note: Use a catch basin to collect escaping coolant.

  8. Remove the water pump and seal.

    9. Do not reuse the seal.

  9. Clean the water pump mating surfaces.
  10. Clean and inspect the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure

  6. Install the water pump drive belt. Refer to Water Pump and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement.
  7. Install the cooling fan. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement or Engine Coolant Fan Replacement.
  8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
