DTC Descriptors
DTC C0710 55: Steering Position Signal expected number of transitions/events not reached
DTC C0710 4B: Steering Position Signal Calibration not Learned
DTC C0710 5A: Steering Position Signal Plausibility Failure
DTC C0710 0F: Steering Position Signal Erratic
DTC C0710 17: Steering Position Signal Signal Shape/ Waveform Failure
Circuit/System Description
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) receives CAN message inputs from the steering wheel position sensor identifying the position and direction of the steering wheel rotation.
Conditions for Running the DTC
• | Ignition voltage is greater than 10 volts. |
• | The vehicle speed is greater than 15 Km/h (9 mph). |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The calculated steering angle from the steering angle sensor does not correlate with the steering angle calculated from the yaw rate sensor.
Actions Taken when the DTC Sets
• | The EBCM disables StabiliTrak for the duration of the ignition cycle. |
• | The antilock brake and traction control system (ABS and TCS) remains functional. |
• | A DIC message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | The condition for setting the DTC no longer present and ignition cycled. |
• | The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 40 consecutive drive cycles. |
Diagnostic Aids
The car should not pull in either direction causing the steering wheel to be OFF center while driving straight on a level surface.

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON, verify that DTCs U1826, U1827, or C0292 are not set.
- Perform the steering angle sensor calibration procedure. Refer to
Steering Angle Sensor Centering.
- With a scan tool, clear the DTC.
- Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC. Verify the DTC does not reset.
⇒ | If the DTC resets, replace the steering angle sensor. |
