The trim material seams located on the console between the rear compartment and armrest on Seville Elegantes and Eldorado Touring Coupes may separate resulting in an unacceptable appearance.
A console trim repair kit, P/N 1631160, has been released to repair this condition. The repair kit contains a moulded plastic trim plate and two plastic rivets. The new trim plate is made to cover the rea where the trim material may have separated. The trim plate and rivets are used on all 1984 production consoles after VIN 62044 on Eldorados and 801499 on Sevilles.
1. Identity interior trim colour as listed on the second line of the body I.D. plate. Paint the trim plate and rivet heads in a semi-gloss finish to match console.

2. Place the trim plate over the repair area and reposition it until a snug fit is achieved with the top and side surfaces of the housing (see Figure 1).
3. Before securing the trim plate, make sure it does not interfere with the console armrest or rear compartment door operation.
4. Using the properly positioned trim plate as a template, drill two 5.56mm (7/32 inch) holes into the console (see Figure 1).
5. While firmly holding the trim plate in place, insert rivets into the holes and press on the centre locking pins until the pins are flush with the rivet hedds.
For warranty purposes, use an appropriate labour operation number. Add .2 hour (AA) to colour coat.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
