IF AN INOPERATIVE LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT DOOR GLASS IS ENCOUNTERED ON 1980, 81 OR 82 SEVILLES, IT MAY BE THE RESULT OF DISENGAGED OR BROKEN DRIVE BLOCK AND/OR DAMAGED DRIVE TAPE. WHEN REMOVING AND REPLACING A BLOCK OR TAPE, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY IS FIRST REMOVED FROM THE DOOR. THIS IS DONE TO ASSURE THAT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE REAR TAPE CHANNEL AND GUIDE TUBE BE MAINTAINED AT 54.7 MM (+.5 OR -2.0) AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1 AND THAT THE REGULATOR ASSEMBLY IS NOT DAMAGED. IF THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TAPE GUIDE AND TUBE IS MORE OR LESS THAN THIS DIMENSION, EXCESSIVE LOADS ARE PLACED ON THE BLOCK AND TAPE WHEN THE DOOR GLASS IS CYCLED AND COULD CAUSE AN INOPERATIVE CONDITION. THE TAPE CHANNEL AND TUBE RELATIONSHIP SHOULD ALWAYS BE CHECKED AND IF NECESSARY, ADJUSTED WHEN SERVICING A DRIVE BLOCK OR TAPE. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE DESCRIBES HOW SUCH ADJUSTMENTS CAN BE MADE. 1.REMOVE THE WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY FROM THE DOOR (SEE PAGE 5-51 IN 1982 FISHER BODY SERVICE MANUAL). 2.CHECK DISTANCE BETWEEN OUTER SURFACES OF THE REAR TAPE CHANNEL AND GUIDE TUBE. SEE SECTION "A" IN FIGURE 1. THIS DIMENSION SHOULD RANGE BETWEEN A HIGH OF 55.2 MM AND A LOW OF 54.6 MM. 3.REMOVE TWO (2) GUIDE TUBE UPPER SUPPORT BRACKETS TO ROLLER HOUSING ATTACHING BOLTS AND ONE (1) LOWER GUIDE TUBE ATTACHING NUT. 4.IF THE GUIDE BLOCK IS BROKEN, REMOVE AND INSTALL A NEW BLOCK. IF THE BLOCK IS DISENGAGED FROM THE DRIVE TAPE, ROTATE THE UPPER PIN OF BLOCK INTO THE TAPE FIRST AND SNAP THE REMAINING PINS INTO PLACE. IN EITHER CASE WHEN SERVICING A DRIVE BLOCK, THE TAPE SHOULD BE REPLACED. NOTE: THE PROCEDURE FOR REMOVING AND REPLACING A DRIVE TAPE IS DESCRIBED ON PAGE 5-52 IN THE 1982 FISHER BODY SERVICE MANUAL. 5.IF THE DISTANCE IN STEP 2 WAS FOUND TO BE MORE OR LESS THAN SPECIFIED, BEND THE VERTICAL PORTION OF UPPER SUPPORT BRACKET IN TO DECREASE AND OUT TO INCREASE THE TAPE CHANNEL TO GUIDE TUBE RELATIONSHIP. 6.REINSTALL THE GUIDE TUBE. INSTALL THE UPPER SUPPORT BRACKET TO THE ROLLER HOUSING LOWER ATTACHING BOLT, LAST. 7.REPEAT STEPS 2, 3, 5 AND 6 IF NECESSARY. 8.REINSTALL WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
