GR. 9 CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE

INOPERATIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON SOME E AND K DIESEL-EQUIPPED VEHICLE WITH DIGITAL DISPLAY MIGHT BE CAUSED BY IMPROPER WIRING AT THE BUFFER AMPLIFIER. TO CORRECT, REMOVE WIRE FROM CAVITY B, CUT OFF TERMINAL AND SPLICE INTO WHT WIRE IN CAVITY A. LEAVE CAVITY B OPEN ALSO, VERIFY PROPER ORIENTATION OF WIRES IN CAVITIES C, D, AND E. GR. 1 ECC POWER MODULE INOPERATIVE - 1981 C-CAR WITH V-6

THE ECC POWER MODULE MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE IF THE A/C COMPRESSOR DIODE LEADS ARE SHORTED TO EACH OTHER. IF THE BLUE WIRE TO THE COMPRESSOR FROM THE ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL (ECC) POWER MODULE IS MISROUTED, IT CAN PULL THE TWO CONNECTING DIODE WIRES TOGETHER, SHORTING OUT THE DIODE. INSULATE AND REROUTE WIRES AS NECESSARY.

GR. 9 INOPERATIVE CRUISE CONTROL - 1981 CARS

INOPERATIVE CRUISE CONTROL MAY RESULT IF THE 8 VOLT LINE TO THE SPEED SENSOR IS PINCHED AT THE STEERING COLUMN BRACKET CAUSING A SHORT TO GROUND. THIS CONDITION MAY PRODUCE THE FOLLOWING TROUBLE CODES (30, 33, 34, 36) AND BRING DOWN OTHER 5 VOLT OUTPUT SIGNALS. REPAIR THE PINCHED WIRES AT THE STEERING COLUMN BRACKET TO CORRECT THE CONDITION.

GR. 1 ECC GROUNDING MUST BE PROPER FOR ECC FUNCTIONING

THE ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL (ECC) WILL NOT FUNCTION IF IT IS NOT GROUNDED PROPERLY. FOR PROPER GROUNDING, THE GROUND WIRES SHOULD BE CONNECTED BY THE BOLT UNDER THE CARPET JUST RIGHT OF THE LOWER BLOWER VENT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ILLUSTRATED BELOW.

GR. 8 DFI RANGE COMPUTER MALFUNCTION

A POOR CONNECTION AT THE DIGITAL DISPLAY ON DFI CARS CAN CAUSE RANGE COMPUTERS TO BE INOPERATIVE OR NOT PROPERLY DISPLAYED. CHECK FOR SECURE CONNECTION BEFORE REPLACING ANY COMPONENT.

GR. 6C FUEL GAGE AND FILTER ITEMS

REPORTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED OF ENGINES RUNNING OUT OF FUEL WHEN GAGE READS 1/4 FULL OR ONLY SLIGHTLY LESS THAN 1/4 FULL. INVESTIGATIONS INDICATE THAT THE ABSENCE OF THE FILTER FROM PICKUP TUBE AND SENDING UNIT OR THE MISPOSITIONING OF THE FILTER THE TUBE MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THIS CONDITION.

THE FUEL GAGE FILTER NOT ONLY ACTS AS A FOREIGN MATERIAL FILTER BUT ALSO ACTS AS A WICK WHEN THE FUEL LEVEL BECOMES LOW. THIS FORMATION APPLIES ONLY TO THOSE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE WATER-IN FUEL INDICATOR UNITS.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
