GR. 5 FRONT BRAKE ROTOR SERVICE - 1982 CIMARRON SOME 1982 GENERAL MOTORS "J" SERIES VEHICLES CAN BE EQUIPPED FROM MANUFACTURING WITH EITHER SOLID FRONT BRAKE ROTORS OR VENTED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. THESE ROTORS ARE SPECIFIC FOR THEIR MATCHING PISTON AND CALIPER ASSEMBLIES.

DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF STANDARD EQUIPMENT ON THE CADILLAC CIMARRON, ONLY VENTED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ARE USED. IF SERVICE REQUIRES REPLACING A FRONT BRAKE ROTOR ON ANY CIMARRON, A ROTOR OF THE SAME VENTED TYPE MUST BE INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. VENTED ROTORS FOR CIMARRON ARE AVAILABLE UNDER PART NUMBER 14030413.

GR. 6E AIR PUMP SEQUEL SOME AIR PUMPS ON DFI AND V-6 ENGINES HAVE BEEN FOUND TO EMIT A "SQUEALING SOUND" UPON ENGINE COLD STARTS, WHICH LASTS APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS OR LESS. THIS CONDITION IS RELATED TO THE DESIGN OF THE PUMP AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AS AN INDICATOR COMPONENT REPLACE- MENT IS NECESSARY. DO NOT REPLACE PUMPS FOR THIS CONDITION. THE SOUND HAS BEEN EXPERIENCED DURING COLD STARTS AND OCCURS ONLY ONCE AT A PARTICULAR TEMPERATURE. IN COLD WEATHER, THE PLASTIC FAN CONTRACTS SOMEWHAT AND MAY RUB AGAINST THE ALUMINUM BODY OF THE PUMP. THIS CAUSES THE CONTACTING EDGES OF THE FAN TO WEAR DOWN A SMALL AMOUNT AND MAKE A SQUEALING NOISE WHILE DOING SO. IT IS BELIEVED THAT ONCE THE FAN IS "WORN-IN" THE SQUEALING SOUND WILL NOT OCCUR AGAIN UNTIL A SUBSEQUENT COLD START AT A LOWER TEMPERATURE.

GR. 7 THM 200C TURBINE SHAFT SOLID SEAL RING ON MARCH 30, 1981, A PRODUCTION TRIAL RUN WAS STARTED USING ONE SOLID SEAL RING ON THE TURBINE SHAFT OF THE THM 200C TRANSMISSION. THIS TURBINE SHAFT SOLID SEAL RING PROVIDES BETTER SEALING DURING STORAGE AND SHIPPING OF COMPLETED TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLIES TO THE ASSEMBLY PLANTS. WHEN SERVICING THIS SEAL, REPLACE IT WITH THE SCARF CUT SERVICE SEAL PER THE PROCEDURE BELOW.

TO REPLACE THIS TURBINE SHAFT SOLID SEAL RING: A. REMOVE IT BY CAREFULLY CUTTING WITH A SHARP KNIFE. B. INSTALL A CURRENT PRODUCTION SCARF CUT TURBINE SHAFT SEAL RING. (THE SOLID SEAL RING IS NOT REQUIRED FOR SERVICE.)

GR. 7 INPUT SUN GEAR INSTALLATION THM 125 ON SOME EARLY THM 125 TRANSMISSIONS, THE INPUT SUN GEAR WAS MANUFACTURED WITHOUT AN IDENTIFICATION GROOVE. THOSE WITHOUT A GROOVE SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN THE TRANSMISSIONS WITH THE CHAMFERED SIDE TOWARD THE INPUT DRUM HOUSING AS PER FIGURE 125C-66 IN THE 1982 CIMARRON SERVICE MANUAL. INPUT SUN GEARS WITH THE IDENTIFICATION GROOVE SHOULD BE INSTALLED WITH THE GROOVE TOWARD THE INPUT DRUM HOUSING. PLEASE MAKE THIS REFERENCE IN YOUR 1982 CIMARRON SERVICE MANUAL.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
