FRONT/REAR DOOR ARMREST REPAIR PROCEDURE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: All 1980-84 'K' Styles

If a loose or broken door armrest is encountered at the attaching screw locations, the condition may be repaired as follows:

1. Using a flat-bladed tool, carefully remove the courtesy lamp assembly from the door armrest as shown in Figure 1.

2. Remove the two (2) screws that are used to retain the armrest to the inner panel.

NOTICE: Repair only one (1) armrest attaching location at a time. The remaining attaching screws are needed to hold the armrest in postion while the repair is being made.

3. Fabricate a metal bracket to the shape of the template shown in Figure 2.

4. Check the fit of the bracket to the armrest.

NOTICE: If the bracket cannot be securely bonded because too much plastic has broken away from the base of the armrest, the armrest must be replaced with a new assembly.

5. Clean the plastic surface of the armrest with naphtha or equivalent.

6. Mix 3M structural adhesive (part number 8101 or equivalent) according to the manufacturer's directions on the package and apply it to the inboard attaching surface of the armrest and the contacting surface of the repair bracket.

7. Postion the repair bracket to the armrest and install both of the attaching screws.

8. Repeat the above repair procedure to the other armrest attaching location, if required.

NOTICE: Cars built on or after 2A date code will incorporate a revised armrest assembly.
