CATALYTIC CONVERTER HOLE INSTALLATION OF NEW PROM

SOME 1981 CADILLACS EQUIPPED WITH DFI AND A FIRST GENERATION ECM MAY EXPERIENCE AN EXHAUST NOISE RESULTING FROM A HOLE IN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THIS CONDITION MAY RESULT FROM AIR MANAGEMENT VALVE OPERATION WHICH IS NOT OPTIMUM UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS FOR SOME VEHICLES. TO DIAGNOSE AND CORRECT THE ABOVE CONDITION, THE FOLLOWING STEPS SHOULD BE USED: 1.ASSURE THE AIR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY (REFER TO THE 1981 CADILLAC SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 6E). 2.IF NO AIR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS ARE DETECTED, INSTALL THE PROM SERVICE KIT LISTED BELOW: MODEL C-CALIF B.C. RANGE 100001-139534 ECM GENERATION 1 ECM ID LW PROM SERVICE KIT NUMBER 1225772 MODEL C-FEDERAL B.C. RANGE 100001-130880 ECM GENERATION 1 ECM ID FS PROM SERVICE KIT NUMBER 1225772 MODEL E/K-CALIF B.C. RANGE E 600001-617927 K 680001-691350 ECM GENERATION 1 ECM ID KB PROM SERVICE KIT NUMBER 1225773 MODEL E/K-FEDERAL B.C. RANGE E 600001-616866 K 680001-690461 ECM GENERATION 1 ECM ID BH PROM SERVICE KIT NUMBER 1225866 3.REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
