NEW DESIGN SELECTIVE WASHER 1981-1983 THM 200-C, 200-4R, AND 325-4L

Any time internal repairs are performed to the above listed transmissions, inspect the selective washer used to establish front (or input) unit end play for wear or damage. Beginning in late March, 1983, a new design selective washer went into production and is now available for service that is used on the following parts:

Turbine shaft to output shaft - THM 200-C Forward clutch shaft to output shaft - THM 200-4R Input shaft to output shaft - THM 325-4L

These new service parts are made from a different material and can be identified by a raised portion on the identification tab as shown in Figure #1.

When servicing any THM 200-C, 200-4R, or 325-4L transmission that necessitates the replacement of the front (or input) unit selective washer due to wear or damage, use the following service procedure:

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Inspect the appropriate two shafts for wear or damage on the selective washer mating surfaces. If wear or damage is found, replace the necessary shaft(s) to prevent future wear.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
