GROUP 7- TRANSMISSION - MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
1. PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE DELAYED ENGAGEMENT - 1982 THM 325-4L TRANSMISSIONS:
1982 SEVILLES AND ELDORADOS MAY EXPERIENCE A PARK TO DRIVE AND/OR PARK TO REVERSE DELAYED SHIFT RESULTING FROM A LOSS OF PUMP PRIME. THIS CONDITION OCCURS DURING THE INITIAL START-UP AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. A NEW DESIGN TRANSMISSION FILTER, CONTAINING AN INTERNAL CHECK VALVE, HAS BEEN RELEASED TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION. THE SERVICE PACKAGE (P/N 8635927) CONSISTS OF: A. A NEW DESIGN OIL FILTER ASSEMBLY B. AN "O" RING SEAL C. AN OIL PAN GASKET
2. THM 325-4L TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKS:
A TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK AT THE TV CABLE ATTACHING AREA ON 1982 E-K CARS EQUIPPED WITH THM 325-4L TRANSMISSIONS MAY BE CAUSED BY A DAMAGED TV CABLE SEAL. TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION:
1. LUBRICATE A NEW TV CABLE SEAL WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID AND INSTALL INTO TRANSMISSION CASE HOLE.
2. INSPECT PLASTIC END OF THE TV CABLE FOR CRACKS. IF CRACKS ARE EVIDENT, REPLACE TV CABLE.
3. WHEN REINSTALLING TV CABLE ON TRANSMISSION, MAKE SURE THAT CABLE IS INSTALLED PROPERLY AND NOT COCKED TO ONE SIDE. TORQUE TV CABLE ATTACHING BOLT TO 10 N.M (8 FT.LBS.). USE PROPER SOCKET OR TOOL THAT DOES NOT CONTACT OR SIDE LOAD THE CABLE FITTING DURING BOLT INSTALLATION AND TORQUING.
3. THM 325-4L SPROCKET COVER BOLT USAGE:
THM 325-4L TRANSMISSIONS USED IN EARLY PRODUCTION 1982 DIESEL EQUIPPED SEVILLES AND ELDORADOS WERE BUILT USING FIVE STUD TYPE BOLTS (P/N 8635546) SITUATED AROUND THE SPROCKET COVER. THESE STUD BOLTS WERE USED TO ACCMODATE THE SPROCKET COVER INSULATOR AND WERE REPLACED BY STANDARD TYPE BOLTS (P/N 11503782) IN LATER PRODUCTION.
WHEN THE SPROCKET COVER IS REMOVED FROM A THM 325-4L TRANSMISSION STANDARD TYPE BOLTS SHOULD BE USED DURING REASSEMBLY. IF THE STUD TYPE BOLTS ARE USED AND HANDLING DAMAGE OCCURS TO ANY BOLT, A TRANSMISSION OIL LEAK MAY RESULT.
THE FOLLOWING REVISION SHOULD BE MADE TO THE 1982 SERVICE MANUAL TO ASSURE PROPER BOLT USAGE:
1. DELETE FIGURE 325-4L-208C "SPECIAL BOLT LOCATIONS" FROM PAGE 325-4L-54.
2. DELETE THE THIRD SENTENCE OF STEP 28 IN "THE OVERDRIVE CARRIER" SECTION ON PAGE 325-4L-53.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
