This bulletin supersedes 1983 Product Service Bulletin 6-198, August, which should be destroyed.
The intake manifold (P/N 1630556) currently available through GMWDD for servicing 1982, 1983 and 1984 HT4100 engines has different height manifold bolt bosses than the intake manifolds used on 1982, 1983 and early 1984 HT4100 engines. When installing this service intake manifold on an HT4100 engine that was originally equipped with an early intake manifold, a 'D' style bolt must be used in the #15 position, and a 5mm thick washer such as (P/N 3706737) must be installed between the engine lift bracket and the intake manifold on bolt number 15. (Due to a bolt boss height change and the use of a new production engine lift bracket, the new intake manifold uses a 'C' style bolt in position 15 when installed with the new production style lift bracket.) When replacing the intake manifold, use the bolts at the locations and torque sequences, as shown in Figure 1. When identifying intake manifold styles, refer to Figure 1 for the manifold part number location.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
