1982 E AND K BODIES EQUIPPED WITH THM 325-4L TRANSMISSIONS MAY EXPERIENCE A TRANSMISSION OIL LEAK IN THE FINAL DRIVE TO TRANSMISSION CASE MATING AREA AND/OR AN ERRATIC UPSHIFT CAUSED BY A LOOSE OR MISSING GOVERNOR CUP PLUG IN THE TRANSMISSION CASE PASSAGE (REFER TO FIGURE 1). THE CUP PLUG WAS SECURED IN PRODUCTION WITH LOCTITE EFFECTIVE WITH THE LISTED TRANSMISSION SERIAL NUMBERS. ON THE THM 325-4L, THE SERIAL NUMBER IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE BELL HOUSING AND USES THE FOLLOWING FORMAT: MODEL YEAR 82 MODEL AJ SERIAL NUMBER 58856 (ENGINE APPLICATION) (HT4100 ENGINE) MODEL YEAR 82 MODEL AL SERIAL NUMBER 8327 (ENGINE APPLICATION) (DIESEL ENGINE) MODEL YEAR 82 MODEL AM SERIAL NUMBER 5587 (ENGINE APPLICATION) (V-6 ENGINE) TO CORRECT TRANSMISSIONS WITH THIS CONDITION, PROCEED AS FOLLOW: 1.REMOVE FINAL DRIVE (REFER TO 1982 CADILLAC SERVICE INFORMATION MANUAL, PAGE 4C-3). 2.REMOVE ORIGINAL GOVERNOR CUP PLUG. 3.INSTALL A NEW GOVERNOR CUP PLUG (P/N 8620318) USING LOCTITE 290 OR EQUIVALENT TO SEAL THE CUP PLUG TO THE TRANSMISSION CASE. STAKING THE CUP PLUG INTO THE TRANSMISSION CASE WILL NOT ASSURE AN ADEQUATE SEAL. 4.INSTALL FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY WITH NEW GASKET (P/N 1620403)(REFER TO 1982 CADILLAC SERVICE INFORMATION MANUAL, PAGE 4C-3).
