If the rear compartment lid on a 1980-85 Cadillac Seville can not be unlocked with the key or from the auto-release, the following procedure may be used.
1. Remove rear seat cushion and back.
a) Rear seat back is retained at the top by bolts driven from within the rear compartment.
b) Rear seat back must be propped up and bolts removed by working through holes in the rear seat back panel.
2. Loosen spare tire by working through holes in rear seat back and push tire down.
3. Pull rear compartment trim away from rear seat back panel, and remove deck lid inner panel trim exposing lock assembly.
4. Using several 3/8 inch drive, long extensions remove lock retaining bolts from lid, allowing lid to partially open.
5. From outside car, disconnect remote actuator from lock. Allow lid to fully open.
6. Replace lock parts and all previously removed trim, etc.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
