Some 1988 Sedan DeVilles and Fleetwoods may exhibit a condition of sheet metal creaking at the lower left center pillar area. This creaking is most apparent on sudden acceleration or stopping. This condition may be caused by a movement of sheet metal in the center pillar lower rocker area.
To repair this condition, reform the lower rocker flange (refer to Figure 1) inboard about 6mm by using a hammer and caulking spoon. Test drive the vehicle to confirm this repair eliminated the creaking. In the event this does not correct the creaking, contact the CADSTAR at 1-800-CAD-STAR for further assistance.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
