CREAKING NOISE AT PILLAR AREA PROCEDURE TO REPAIR

METAL CREAKING IN LEFT CENTER PILLAR AT LOWER ROCKER (Revised to exclude U.S. statement.)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 SEDAN DE VILLE AND FLEETWOOD -----------------

Some 1988 Sedan DeVilles and Fleetwoods may exhibit a condition of sheet metal creaking at the lower left center pillar area. This creaking is most apparent on sudden acceleration or stopping. This condition may be caused by a movement of sheet metal in the center pillar lower rocker area. To repair this condition, reform the lower rocker flange (refer to figure 1) inboard about 6mm by using a hammer and caulking spoon. Test drive the vehicle to confirm this repair eliminated the creaking.
