TRANS. CONTROL LEVER SHIFTERS EFFORT (REPLACE LEVER)

Some owners of 1986-1989 Eldorados and Sevilles, and 1987-1989 Allantes (e.g., customers afflicted with arthritis) may experience difficulty operating the production transmission control lever (shifter) due to the thumb effort required. In some cases the customer may prefer replacement of the production shifter knob with one of an alternate design that requires a downward palm effort rather than a thumb effort. The shifter knob from the Buick Riviera is compatible with the above models; and the vehicle may be modified, if the customer requests, by substituting this knob for the production control lever if required to accommodate the physical limitations of the owner.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
