Some 1990-1991 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, and Sevilles may experience a condition of a code E39 (E039).
When servicing 1990 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, and Sevilles with a code E39 refer to Service bulletin T-89-32.
When servicing 1991 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, and Sevilles with a code E39, follow the attached trouble trees.
Code E39 will set when the ECM commands VCC apply in fourth gear but determines that engine rpm is too high for the given vehicle speed. Possible causes for this condition include:
* slipping converter clutch in torque converter * leak in VCC apply passages * stuck/binding VCC apply valve * faulty VCC solenoid * faulty wiring or ECM * incorrect PROM in car * incorrect transmission assembly in car
