ZINC DIE CAST GOLD PLATED ORNAMENTATION CORROSION

SUBJECT: ZINC DIE CAST GOLD ORNAMENTATION

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990 DE VILLES, FLEETWOODS, ELDORADOS, SEVILLES, AND BROUGHAMS WRFH OPTION (B94)

Some 1990 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, Sevilles, and Broughams with option B94 (gold ornamentation) may experience a condition of a white cloudy film developing on the zinc die cast gold-plated ornaments. This condition is due to the deterioration of the clear coat resulting in the corrosion of the gold plating.

This condition may be corrected by replacing the zinc die cast parts with new generation parts. The new generation parts must be ordered and received in kit form. Kits are assembled with reference to carline. The Eldorado and Seville and DeVille and Fleetwood kits include all gold ornamentation with exception of the sail panel crest and wreath. The Brougham kits include all gold ornamentation with exception of the rear quarter script and the deck lid engine plate. These parts not included in the kit must be ordered along with the service kit and must replace the piece currently on the vehicle. The kits can be ordered utilizing the following part numbers:

To install the gold ornamentation service kits and additional required parts use the following procedures:

DeVille/Fleetwood ------------------- 1. Remove hood ornament (24mm or 15/16" nut).

2. Remove radiator valance panel (six Phillips-head screws).

3. Remove grille script (two 10mm nut)

4. Remove sail panel wreath and crest (stick on, studs, or illuminated).

5. Remove rear compartment engine plate.

6. Remove swing lock cover wreath.

7. Remove swing lock cover.

8. Clean surface area of vehicle where adhesives are to be used with solvent.

9. Install all new gold ornamentation.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6453 at .6 hour.

Brougham

1. Remove hood ornament (24mm or 15/16" nut).

2. Remove radiator valance panel (six Phillips-head screws).

3. Remove grille script (two 10mm nuts).

4. Remove sail panel wreath and crest (stick on, studs, or illuminated).

5. Remove rear compartment engine plate.

6. Remove swing lock cover wreath.

7. Remove swing lock cover.

8. Clean surface area of vehicle where adhesives are to be used with solvent.

9. Install all new gold ornamentation.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6454 at .7 hour.

Eldorado/Seville ------------------ 1. Remove hood ornament.

2. Remove radiator valance panel (six Phillips-head screws).

3. Remove grille script (two 10mm nuts).

4. Remove sail panel wreath and crest (stick on, studs, or illuminated).

5. Remove rear compartment engine plate.

6. Remove swing lock cover wreath.

7. Remove swing lock cover.

8. Clean surface area of vehicle where adhesives are to be used with solvent.

9. Install all new gold ornamentation.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6455 at .6 hour.

Eldorado Biarritz

1. Remove hood ornament.

2. Remove radiator valance panel (six Phillips-head screws).

3. Remove grille script (two 10mm nuts).

4. Remove rear compartment engine plate.

5. Remove swing lock cover wreath.

6. Remove swing lock cover.

7. Remove vinyl top assembly.

- Tape protective cover to adjacent painted surfaces.

- Remove lace (two screws and clips slide outboard).

- Remove clips from weld studs and lace at roof.

- Open deck lid and remove screws.

- Separate cap assembly at hook and loop material.

- Slide cap assembly forward to disengage at slots and from welds.

- Remove cap assembly.

8. Remove Biarritz script.

9. Install new Biarritz script.

10. Replace cap assembly.

- Apply thin piece of cardboard over loop fasteners on roof sail panel and tape in place. This is done to separate the hook and loop fasteners during cap installation.

- Position cap to roof tucking rear valance under front edge of deck lid open. (Deck lid must be half-way open.)

- Position front edge of cap assembly over weld studs.

- Slide cap rearward to engage key slot at far right side.

- Align studs on cap assembly to previously-installed push nuts and insert until snug.

- Close deck lid and push rear of cap down to seat against quarter panel catwalk.

- Align valance with deck lid and mark position of valance with tape in glass.

- Open deck lid. Align valance to tape and install screws.

- Remove cardboard and press in on assembly at hook and loop material.

- Secure slots at sail panels by pressing in.

- Secure lace over weld studs with clips.

- Install moldings.

- Remove tape and protective cover.

11. Clean surface area of vehicle where adhesives are to be used with solvent.

12. Install remaining new gold ornamentation.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6481 at 2.3 hours.
