BATTERY REPLACEMENT ON STOCK VEHICLES (INFORMATION)

SUBJECT: BATTERY REPLACEMENT ON STOCK VEHICLES

A recent review indicates that a significant number of dealerships are still submitting warranty claims for replacement of batteries on vehicles with less than 100 odometer miles. The Cadillac Policies and Procedures Manual discusses this topic in detail:

"BATTERY RECHARGING, SWAPPING, OR REPLACEMENT DUE TO DAMAGE OR LACK OF MAINTENANCE ARE NOT COVERED BY THE NEW VEHICLE WARRANTY DURING THE PERIOD OF DEALER INVENTORY STORAGE."

Information concerning proper battery testing and charging procedures may be found in Cadillac Service Bulletin T-89-35 dated November, 1988.

Effective with credit memo 238, Cadillac no longer accept claims for battery maintenance or replacement while in dealer inventory/storage. In the rare event that you have a defective battery in new vehicle inventory, contact your Cadillac service representative for review and authorization consideration.

Please communicate this information to your New Vehicle Receiving personnel, Sales Manager, Service Manager, Claims Administrator, and any other involved dealership personnel.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
