This bulletin contains additional vehicles involved and is being issued to supplement bulletin 0A25 which was only sent to dealers with affected vehicles.
All of the vehicles indicated in the Vehicles Involved section of this bulletin require inspection of the SIR Inflator Module. the Service Procedure section has been modified to include inspection instructions, and a separate Repair Code has been added to the Parts & Labour Claim Information section.
General Motors of Canada has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1990 Cadillac Eldorado, Seville and Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight model vehicles. In the event of an accident requiring deployment of the driver's side Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR), the SIR Inflator Module, located in the steering wheel assembly, could separate. If separation occurs, the air bag will not inflate as intended, and the driver will not be properly restrained. In addition, separation of the SIR inflatable Module may result in hot combustion gases escaping into the occupant compartment, presenting the possibility that vehicle occupants could receive bum injuries.
To correct this condition, dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the SIR Inflator Module on affected vehicles as per the Vehicles Involved and Service Procedure sections of this bulletin. Dealers will inspect the 14 digit Bar Code Label on the back side of the SIR Inflator Module for the following codes:
Cadillac Bar Code Oldsmobile Bar Code
AB88221BKAAL76 AB7138LAKAAA63 AB88221BKAAL86 AB97651BKAAD89 AB88231BKABP27
If one of the above codes is found or if the Bar Code Label is not present for inspection, dealers are to replace the SIR Inflator Module.
The following VINs are included in this recall:
1G6EL1333LU611780 1G6EL1337LU612270 1G6EL1339LU612321 1G6EL1333LU612363 1G6KS5332LU811725 1G6KY5338LU812523 1G6KY5335LU812558 1G6KS533OLU812632 1G6KY5334LU812647 1G6KY5338LU812652 1G6KY533XLU813219 1G6KS5335LU813291 1G6KY5334LU813507 1G3HY53C4LH335654
