GREASE LEAKS FROM RIGHT-HAND INBOARD DRIVE AXLE BOOT

SUBJECT: DRIVE AXLE BOOT LEAKS (REPOSITION-ELECTRICAL CABLE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990-91 E, K MODELS

Some 1990 and 1991 Eldorados up to MU606000 and some 1990 and 1991 Sevilles up to MU806000 may experience a grease leak at the right-hand inboard drive axle boot. This condition may be caused by a misrouted cable that goes from the battery to the alternator rubbing on the drive axle boot.

To repair this condition reposition the electrical cable so that it is not looped close to the drive axle. After repositioning, be certain that the cable does not interfere with any other vehicle components. Replace the drive axle boot per Service Information Manual procedures. Thoroughly clean and inspect the inboard joint assembly for wear. If the housing, spider, or bearing blocks exhibit any wear, they may also need to be replaced.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
