Some owners of 1992 Sevilles may experience a water leak at the bottom of the door trim pad. It can be identified by a wet primary weatherstrip carrier or floor carpeting. This condition may be caused by an inadequately sealed door water deflector.
To correct this condition perform the following procedure:
1. Remove the door trim panel and speaker assembly. Refer to Section 10-6 of the 1992 Eldorado/Seville Service Manual.
2. Remove the door water deflector and any visible sealers or tape from the door inner panel.
3. Install an auxiliary water deflector, P/N 3539144 (same for left- and right-hand applications), to the outboard side of the upper rear corner of the door inner panel. Refer to Figure 1, View A.
4. Apply rope sealer, 3M P/N EC.5334 or equivalent, to the door inner panel to the areas indicated in Figure 1, all Views.
5. Install a new door water deflector (P/N 3539139 left front door or P/N 3539138 right front door) referring to Figure 3.
A. Starting at the top of the door inner panel, align the vertical locating line on the water deflector to the inner panel gage hole and the two horizontal locating lines to the reinforcing ribs on the door inner panel. Press firmly into place. Refer to Figure 2.
B. Next, starting at the upper front corner, slick the front vertical edge of the water deflector down on the door inner panel and around the speaker access hole allowing the excess deflector to gather in the speaker access hole. Refer to Figure 2.
C. Slick the rear vertical edge of the deflector beginning at the top and working toward the speaker access hole. Refer to Figure 2.
D. Apply strip caulk sealer, 3M P/N EC.5334 or equivalent, to the window channel securing bolt.
E. Apply a 10 cm (four inch) length of 5 cm (two inch) wide waterproof tape, 3M P/N 250 or equivalent, to the lower rear drain slot. Refer to Figure 2.
6. Reinstall the speaker assembly and door trim pad being careful not to distort the water deflector.
1. Remove the door trim panel referring to Section 10-6 of the 1992 Service Manual.
2. Remove the door water deflector and any visible sealers or tapes from the door inner panel.
3. Install an auxiliary water deflector (P/N 3539143 left rear door or P/N 3539142 right rear door) to the outboard side of the upper rear corner of the door inner panel. Refer to Figure 3, View A.
4. Apply rope sealer, 3M P/N EC.5334 or equivalent, to the areas indicated in Figure 3, Views B and C.
5. Install a new rear door water deflector (P/N 3539141 left rear door or P/N 3539140 right rear door) referring to Figure 4.
A. Start at the top of the door inner panel and align the vertical locating line to the door inner panel gage hole and the two horizontal locating lines to the reinforcing ribs of the door inner panel. Press firmly into place. Refer to Figure 4.
B. Slick the rear vertical portion of the water deflector beginning at the top and working down to the lower end of the rope sealer.
C. Next, slick the front vertical edge of the deflector down from the upper corner and follow the rope sealer into the door lower cavity.
D. Tuck the lower water deflector flaps through the door pad attaching slots and into the door cavity.
6. Reinstall the door trim panels being careful not to distort the water deflector.
