Removal Procedure
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
.
- Remove the bolt securing the power steering hose.
- Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
.
- Remove the accessory belt tensioner.
- Remove the accessory belt idler pulley.
- Remove the front cover bolts.
- Remove the front cover and gasket. The gasket is reusable. Do
not discard unless it is damaged.
Installation Procedure
- Place a small daub of RTV sealant at the split line of the upper
and lower crankcases.
- Cover the gasket over the dowel pins.
- Install the front cover over the dowel pins.
- Install the front cover bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the accessory belt idler pulley.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the accessory belt tensioner.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
.
- Install the power steering hose retainer. Refer to Power Steering
Hose Retainer Replacement in Power Steering Gear and Pump.
- Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
.
