Accelerator Controls Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 24699  Size: SH
  1. Remove the accelerator cable (1) from the accelerator pedal (2).
  2. Remove the accelerator cable retainer (3).
  3. Squeeze accelerator cable cover tangs and push cable through dash panel (bulkhead).

  4. Object Number: 19016  Size: SH
  5. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket.
  6. Note: Cruise throttle cam not shown.

  7. Hold the throttle valve open completely.
  8. Push the accelerator cable (1) tword the intake manifold (2) until released.
  9. Important: Do Not kink accelerator cable. Do Not use a screwdriver or other sharp tool for removing cable.

  10. Remove the accelerator cable at the throttle body lever (3).

Installation Procedure

Notice: In order to prevent possible interference and damage, flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) must not be routed within 50 mm (2 in) of moving parts, unless the routing is positively controlled.

Important: Accelerator cable must be routed through groove in throttle body lever and seated securely.

  1. Hold the throttle valve open completely.
  2. Push the accelerator cable (1) into the throttle body lever (2).
  3. Notice: Route the accelerator cable through the groove in throttle body lever. Securely seat the accelerator cable.

  4. Pull accelerator cable until a snap is heard, indicating that the accelerator cable is seated.

  5. Object Number: 24760  Size: SH
  6. Throttle valve shown open.
  7. Disconnect and connect the cruise control cable the same way.
  8. Route the accelerator cable under brake master cylinder and trrough the dash panel (bulkhead).
  9. Secure the retainer at the dash.
  10. Secure the cable at the accelerator pedal.
  11. Important: Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal. Throttle should operate freely without bind between full closed and wide open throttle.

  12. Check for a complete throttle opening and closing positions.

Accelerator Controls Pedal Replacement

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 24699  Size: SH
  1. Remove the accelerator cable (1) from the accelerator pedal (2).

  2. Object Number: 24813  Size: SH
  3. Remove pedal clip retainer (3).
  4. Remove the washer (2).
  5. Remove the bushings (1).

Installation Procedure

Important: The mounting surface between the support and the dash panel must be free of insulation. The carpet and the padding in the pedal area must be positioned to lay flat and be free of wrinkles and bunches.

  1. Install the pedal clip retainer (3).
  2. Install the washer (2).
  3. Install the bushings (1).

  4. Object Number: 24699  Size: SH

    Important: Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal. The throttle should operate freely without bind between a full closed and a wide open throttle.

  5. Install the accelerator cable (1) from the accelerator pedal (2).
  6. Check for a complete throttle opening and closing position.

Accelerator Controls Cable Bracket Replacement

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 18918  Size: SH
  1. Remove the cruise control from the bracket.
  2. Remove the accelerator cable from the bracket.
  3. Remove the accelerator cable bracket bolts.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 18918  Size: SH
  1. Install the accelerator cable bracket.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 12N·m (106 lb in).

  3. Install the accelerator cable to the bracket.
  4. Install the cruise control to the bracket.
