Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Filter Element and Air Cleaner Assembly
.
- Remove the return and the sending pipe
fittings at the radiator and allow the fluid in the pipes and the cooler to
drain.
- Remove the sending pipe fitting at the
transmission and the pipe from the vehicle.
- Raise the vehicle and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting
and Jacking in General Information.
- Remove the retaining nut and the return
pipe fitting at the transmission and the return pipe from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the retum pipe and the retaining
nut at the transmission. Install the fitting finger tight.
Tighten
• | Tighten the return pipe fitting at the transmission to 22 N·m
(I 6 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the retaining nut to 6 N·m (53 lb in). |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the sending pipe at the transmission.
Install the fitting finger tight.
Tighten
Tighten the sending pipe fitting at the transmission to 22 N·m
(1 6 Ib ft).
- Install the return and the sending pipe
fittings at the radiator. Install the fittings finger tight.
Tighten
Tighten the fittings to 27 N·m (20 Ib ft).
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Filter Element and Air Cleaner Assembly
- Add DEXRON-III transmission fluid as required. Refer to
Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement
and to
Fluid Capacity Specifications
