Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 34730 Fuel Pressure Gauge
    • J 41081 Fuel Injector Remover

    Object Number: 18881  Size: SH
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connector to vehicle harness.
  3. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
  4. Disconnect the fuel rail ground wire strap at the rear cylinder head.

  6. Release the fuel rail to intake manifold locking tab (8) by pushing toward center of the intake manifold.

  7. Object Number: 18886  Size: SH
  8. Pry the injector up out of intake manifold using J 41081 between the bottom of the fuel injector and the intake manifold.

  10. Spread the injector retainer clip (3) to release injector from fuel rail.

  12. Spread the injector retainer clip (3) to release injector from fuel rail.
  13. Notice: It may be necessary to release the adjacent injector(s) from the intake manifold to allow increased fuel rail movement for injector access.

  14. Remove the fuel injector assembly (1) from the fuel rail assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 168577  Size: SH
  1. Lubricate the new upper (3) and lower injector (2) O-rings with clean engine oil.
  2. Install the O-rings on the injector.
  3. Install the new retainer clip on to the fuel injector.
  4. Install the fuel injector into fuel rail.
  5. Push the fuel injector in far enough to engage retainer clip with machined slots on fuel rail socket.
  6. A snap will be heard when the fuel injectors on the fuel rail are fully seated.

  8. Push the fuel rail down onto the intake manifold until the locks latch.
  9. Connect the fuel injector electrical connector.

  11. Tighten the fuel filler cap (1).
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  13. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  14. 11.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    11.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    11.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    11.4. Check for fuel leaks.

  15. Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.
  16. Install the intake manifold sight shield.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
