Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.

  2. Object Number: 177408  Size: SH
  3. Remove the retainer and the electrical connector (2) from the fluid level sensor.
  4. Remove the brake pipes from the master cylinder . Plug the open pipes to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Object Number: 288094  Size: SH
  6. Remove the two attaching nuts.
  7. Remove the master cylinder.
  8. Remove the reservoir if it is to be used on replacement of master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 153127  Size: SH
  1. Install the reservoir onto the master cylinder.
  2. Bench bleed the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding .

  3. Object Number: 288094  Size: SH
  4. Install the master cylinder onto the power booster.
  5. Install the attaching nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Install the brake pipes.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipes to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  9. Install the electrical connector to fluid level sensor.
  10. Fill the master cylinder reservoir to the full level mark using only Delco® Supreme II Brake Fluid, or equivalent DOT 3 brake fluid.
  11. Bleed hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
