The tilt/telescoping steering column control system consists of an electronic control module, steering column power assembly with positioning motors and position sensors, a steering column control switch and Class 2 serial data communication. The steering column power assembly has two reversible DC motors for steering column position adjustment. One motor is for vertical (tilt) adjustment. The other motor is for fore/aft (telescoping) adjustment. Each of the column adjuster motor positions is sensed by a 10kohms potentiometer. The two sensors provide signals to the control module which indicate steering column tilt up/down position and telescope in/out position. The module receives inputs from the steering column control switch and by messages over the Class 2 serial data line, and the module commands the two DC motors to move to the required position.
