Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 643351  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  4. Remove the front wheel bearing and hub. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  5. Remove the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle retaining nut.
  6. Use J 24319-B in order to separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle.

  7. Object Number: 402793  Size: SH
  8. Remove the lower ball joint cotter pin (1) and retaining nut (2).
  9. Using J 43828 separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.

  10. Object Number: 104991  Size: SH
  11. Remove the strut to steering knuckle mounting nuts and bolts.
  12. Remove the steering knuckle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 104991  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering knuckle to the strut end lower ball joint.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the strut to the steering knuckle mounting bolts and nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the strut to steering knuckle mounting bolts and nuts to 147 N·m (108 lb ft).

  5. Install the lower ball joint retaining nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in) plus an additional 150 degrees.

    Important: Do not back off nut for cotter pin alignment.

  7. Install the outer tie rod (2) to the steering column knuckle (1). Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement in Power Steering System.
  8. Install the wheel bearing and hub. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  9. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  10. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Check wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.
