Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle and suitably support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Mark the relationship of the wheel to the axle flange.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  4. Object Number: 700950  Size: SH

    Important: Use care not to pinch the electronic pad wear sensor wiring harness (2), when disconnecting/connecting the electronic pad wear sensor. The electronic pad wear sensors must be replaced every time the brake pads are replaced. New brake pad wear sensors are included with GM replacement brake pad kits.

  5. Carefully lift the brake pad wear sensor wire retainer clip on the caliper (1) and remove the wire from under the clip.

  7. Carefully hold the electronic pad wear sensor wire (1) snug, and with a small flat blade screw driver gently pry up on the electronic pad wear sensor to remove it from the inner brake pad.

  8. Object Number: 701868  Size: SH
  9. Carefully remove the electronic pad wear sensor wire (1) from its mounting retainers.
  10. Disconnect the electronic brake pad wear sensor wiring harness electrical connector.
  11. Carefully remove the electronic pad wear sensor wire (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 700955  Size: SH

    Important: Care must be taken that the electronic brake pad wear sensor harness is routed properly, to avoid damaging the harness. The electronic brake pad wear sensor harness must be routed properly so that it will not be broken, cut or pinched.

  1. Carefully push the electronic brake pad wear sensor (1) into the inner brake pad (2).

  2. Object Number: 700950  Size: SH
  3. Carefully lift the electronic brake pad wear sensor wire retainer clip on the caliper (1) and install the wire (2) under the clip.

  4. Object Number: 701868  Size: SH
  5. Install the electronic brake pad wear sensor harness (1) to its mounting retainers. The electronic brake pad wear sensor harness must be routed properly so that it will not be broken, cut or pinched.
  6. Connect the electronic brake pad wear sensor wiring harness electrical connector.
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
