Brake Booster Pump Inoperative Right Drive

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Tests for voltage at the coil side of the power brake booster pump relay. The IGN 1 fuse supplies power to the coil side of the power brake booster pump relay.

  2. Tests if ground is constantly being applied to the power brake booster pump relay.

  3. Tests for voltage at the switch side of the power brake booster pump relay. The EXPORT BRK fuse supplies power to the switch side of the power brake booster pump relay.

Did you perform the Hydraulic Brakes Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the power brake booster pump relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the ignition 1 voltage circuit of the power brake booster pump relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 3

Connect a test lamp between the brake booster vacuum sensor signal circuit of the power brake booster relay and the ignition 1 voltage circuit of the power brake booster relay.

Does the test lamp turn ON?

Go to Step 5

Test the brake booster sensor signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Test the brake booster sensor signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the power brake booster pump relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between the brake booster pump motor supply voltage circuit of the power brake booster relay and the battery positive voltage circuit of the power brake booster relay.

Does the power brake booster pump motor run?

Go to Step 10

Test the brake booster pump motor supply voltage circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the ground circuit of the power brake booster pump assembly for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the power brake booster pump relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the ignition 1 voltage circuit of the power brake booster pump relay. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
