Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle Power

Tools Required

J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

    Important: Before any repair can take place, the column must be fully extended. After the soft stop, press the button 8 more times, the column will override the soft stop and extend 3 mm more.

  1. Take care to not over extend the column wiring.

    2. Object Number: 332857 Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install the upper trim cover (1) and secure by using the TORX® head screw (2).

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  3. Install the power tilt and telescope toggle switch assembly (2) into the lower trim cover (1) only if it has been removed.

    4. Object Number: 312312 Size: SH
  4. Install the lower trim cover (1).
  5. Install the 2 pan head tapping screws (2) to the lower trim cover (1).

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  6. Route the wire harness assembly (2). Notice the direction (3) the wire harness assembly (2) goes into the lower wire shield (1).

    7. Object Number: 312298 Size: SH
  7. Install the entertainment and comfort interface module assembly (2) into the lower wire shield (1).

    8. Object Number: 312291 Size: SH
  8. Install the 3 connectors (2) into the entertainment and comfort interface module assembly (1).

    9. Object Number: 312287 Size: SH
  9. Install the wire harness strap (2) to the upper wire shield (3).
  10. Install the wire harness strap (2) to the lower wire shield (4).
  11. Install the wire harness strap (2) to the upper tilt head assembly (1).

    12. Object Number: 312284 Size: SH
  12. Install the 2 wire harness straps (2) to the wire harness assembly (1).

    13. Object Number: 312274 Size: SH
  13. Install the steering column closeout trim cover (1).

    14. Object Number: 415301 Size: SH
  14. Remove the column from the J 41352 .

  1. Install the upper trim cover (1) and secure by using the 2 TORX® head screws (2).

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  2. Install the lower trim cover (1).
  3. Ensure that the tabs on the lower trim cover (1) engage with the tabs on the upper trim cover (2) then snap together.

    4. Object Number: 283274 Size: SH
  4. Install the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) to the lower trim cover.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  5. Install the steering column closeout trim cover (1).

    6. Object Number: 415301 Size: SH
  6. Remove the column from the J 41352 .

  10. Install the wire harness strap (2) to the upper tilt head assembly (1).

    11. Object Number: 312284 Size: SH
  11. Install the 2 wire harness straps (2) to the wire harness assembly (1).

    12. Object Number: 312274 Size: SH
  12. Install the steering column closeout trim cover (1).
  13. Install the tilt lever assembly.
