Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step determines if the door module recognizes the switch inputs.

If the 3 amp jumper wire fuse opens when the jumper wire is connected, test the signal circuit for a short to battery voltage.

Schematic Reference: Door Lock/Indicator Schematics

DEFINITION: Door locks do not operate from the door lock cylinder switch, which is a built in part of the door latch. It is activated by a rod connected to the door lock cylinder mounted on the exterior of the door. This test assumes that all DTCs have been diagnosed.

2

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter in the Driver Door Module, Inputs list.

Does the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter display the Idle state?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

3

  1. Insert the door lock key into the driver door key cylinder, turn it to the Unlock position and hold it there for 3 to 5 seconds.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter in the Driver Door Module, Inputs list.

Does the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter change to the Unlock state?

Go to Step 5

4

Important:: Check to make sure that the linkage between the driver door key cylinder and the driver door lock actuator containing the driver door cylinder switch is not stuck or binding.

  1. Disconnect the harness connector of the driver door cylinder switch from the driver door lock actuator.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter.

Does the scan tool display the Idle state?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 7

5

Important:: Check to make sure that the linkage between the driver door key cylinder and the driver door lock actuator containing the driver door cylinder switch is not loose or unfastened.

  1. Disconnect the harness connector of the driver door cylinder switch from the driver door lock actuator
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the key switch signal circuit of the harness connector and a good ground.
  3. With the scan tool, observe the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter.

Does the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter display Unlock?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 9

6

  1. Connect the 3 amp fused jumper wire between the key switch signal circuit and the ground circuit of the harness connector.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter.

Does the Driver Door Cylinder Sw. parameter display Unlock?
