Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Watch for the ignition key cylinder lamp operation. Command both the ON and OFF states. Repeat the commands as necessary.

Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Open and close all of the doors.

Did the ignition key cylinder lamp operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Do the courtesy lamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

  1. With a scan tool, select the Key Light (HALO) from the Instrument Panel Module Special Functions Miscellaneous Test.
  2. Command the Key Cylinder Lamp ON and OFF.

Does the ignition key cylinder lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the ignition key cylinder lamp bulb.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the ignition key cylinder lamp and the key cylinder lamp control circuit.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, command the ignition key cylinder lamp ON and OFF.

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the ignition key cylinder lamp for high resistance, an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the key cylinder lamp control circuit for a high resistance or open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the ignition key cylinder lamp bulb. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the ignition key cylinder lamp bulb.

Did you complete the replacement?

Important:: Perform the setup procedure for the IPM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Replace the IPM. Refer to Instrument Panel Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
